We ate at the El Agave, Mexican Restaurant in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Located at Lujan Plaza, 1520 Deborah Road Southeast, Rio Rancho, NM 87124, on August 16, 2019.
The business has been re-opened with new owners. This was our first time with the new owners. We have eaten there in the past with excellant results.
The food and service was excellent. We will return again!
I had the #5, Two Beef Enchiladas, Spanish Rice and Refried Beans and my wife had the Lunch Chimichanga and Refried Beans. -

This is the best Mexican restaurant (not New Mexican!) in Rio Rancho, and possibly in the Albuquerque area. They were closed for a couple of months, but they just opened up again so we ran out to get our fix. Same owning/operating family, same menu, same delicious food. It's a little out of the way, but this restaurant is on par with good Mexican restaurants in places like California where restaurants can survive without covering everything in green or red chile. The service was a little slow today, which I would normally subtract a star for, but since they've only been open for 2 days I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. They're currently only taking cash, but thought that would be fixed within the next week once they get internet service back.

Small Mexican food restaurant nestled in the corner of the small mall area. You walk in it, is a nice place, the booth cushions could use an update but all in all nice place. The food is truly Mexican food, no sopa's, no green or red, it is a red sauce. I must say the food was actually good and for the price you can't go wrong. I would return when I am needing a hook up for Mexican food. One more thing, no menudo, I have been to Mexican food places and some do and some don't have menudo.
Take a trip help a local family make a living. -

More than outstanding!
Anyone that is a connoisseur a Mexican food,understands rice and beans are the best way of determining the quality.
Great variety combinations from the grill etc. even vegetarian dishes!
Daily affordable specials that will have you licking the plate.
Note: A beer license to wash down all that yummy food! -

This was our first time at El Agave and we were very impressed! The food is the best Mexican food I have had since moving to NM. It is not New Mexican-it is Mexican food. I wasn't very adventurous and went with the pollo la crema and expected the same old but I was impressed greatly to find it spicy and the most delicious dish I have had in a Mexican restaurant.
My hubby taco, enchilada and Chile relleno combo plate and loved his as well. The salsa had a nice warmth but not too spicy. We both loved it.
This is a family owned and run place-well worth a stop.
